๐ท A sweeping panoramic shot from the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem during the Great Migration.
There is a moment, somewhere between the amber dunes of Namibia and the mist-covered peaks of the Rwenzori Mountains, when you realise Africa is not a place you visit โ it is a place that changes you. That is the premise behind Africa Unbound, and it is a feeling we have tried to bottle across six immersive episodes.
When we began production last year, the GIGS Media International team set out with a simple but ambitious goal: to show the world a version of Africa that rarely makes international headlines. Not the Africa of crisis or catastrophe โ but the Africa of extraordinary natural beauty, cultural complexity, world-class hospitality, and the quiet dignity of communities living in some of the most spectacular places on earth.
About the Series
Produced over 18 months, the series was filmed across 12 countries on a production budget that rivals international broadcast standards. Our team of 22 โ including cinematographers, local fixers, travel journalists, and cultural consultants โ logged over 40,000 kilometres of travel to bring these stories to screen.
Each episode focuses on a different dimension of African life: natural wonders, urban transformation, ancient heritage, culinary culture, adventure tourism, and the extraordinary people who call this continent home.
"Africa is not a country. It is not a crisis. It is not a single story. It is 54 nations, a thousand languages, and the birthplace of humanity โ and it deserves a platform equal to its complexity."
Episodes Overview
The six-episode series covers the full breadth of the continent. Episode 1 opens in Ethiopia, following the ancient Lalibela pilgrimage route through rock-hewn churches dating back to the 12th century. Episode 2 takes us deep into the Okavango Delta, Botswana's UNESCO-listed inland water wonderland. By Episode 5, we are in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, and the final episode brings us full circle to Nigeria's own breathtaking landscapes โ from the volcanic peaks of the Mandara Mountains to the coral-blue waters of Tarkwa Bay.
